E. ALLAN CHURCHER After a lengthy illness, Ernest Allan Churcher, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away with his wife by his side, on Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at the age of 88 years. His passing is mourned by his loving wife of 55 years, Isabel (nee Gray) daughter and son-in-law Claire and Rick Workman; grandchildren Laura and Paul; sisters Verna Styles and Irene Stevens and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Allan was predeceased by his son Robert (Bob) brother Hartland Churcher and sister Gwen Houston. Born on August 17, 1912 in Antler, Sask., Allan lived most of his life in Winnipeg. He was employed by T. Eaton Co., beginning his career in the music department of the Main Store and then becoming an Assistant Manager in the Mail Order. He joined the army in 1939 and served in Europe for six years as a Sargent in the Artillery Division. Though quiet by nature he did entertain his family with stories of his antics, both as a youth and later overseas in the army. Allan was a gifted artist and in his younger years studied at art school. His beautiful paintings will be cherished by his family. He was also a passionate gardener and particularly loved his extensive flower garden in Charleswood. Throughout his life Allan was a wonderful handyman, able to repair or build anything and spending countless hours helping Claire and Rick build their lake cottage. Allan and Isabel also enjoyed many motor trips, travelling coast to coast in Canada and throughout the U.S. Apart from spending time with family, Allans favourite pastime was reading. He was gentle and modest, generous, dignified and intelligent, with a quiet sense of humour. Allan was devoted to his family and derived endless joy from his grandchildren. His courageous battle with illness and his hope to the very end will be an inspiration to his family and friends. Our family wishes to extend a special thank you to the kind and compassionate staff on 6 East at Deer Lodge Center. Allans Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peters Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street at Grant Avenue. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, donations can be made in Allans memory to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
